St Ives have added to their squad by signing Pirates Amateurs openside flanker Sam Heath, writes Nigel Walrond.

The former Amateurs skipper will boost the competition for back row places, where Sean Stevens has been a regular in the number seven shirt this campaign.

Hakes head coach Joff Rowe said: "It gives us some additional strength in depth and helps us to maintain a bit of a competitive edge for the number seven shirt."

St Ives were without a game last weekend, but they return to Cornwall and Devon League action on Saturday with a trip to Liskeard-Looe (kick-off 2.30).

The Lions have struggled this season and have only won two of their 11 league games so far this campaign, which has left them second-from-bottom of the league table.

However, they only went down 20-18 at home to mid-table Hayle last weekend.
