A man suffered head injuries when his hang glider crashed into sand dunes near Perran Sands Holiday Park this afternoon.

Falmouth Coastguard said a member of the public dialled 999 and requested an ambulance after seeing the hang glider go down at around 2.20pm.

The man who had been flying the craft was reported to have suffered head injuries and Rescue 193 from RNAS Culdrose was tasked to the scene.

But the helicopter was stood down shortly afterwards when ambulance staff confirmed the casualty was conscious and breathing.

The St Agnes Coastguard Rescue Team attended to help carry the stretcher across the dunes to a waiting ambulance.

A spokesman for Falmouth Coastguard said: "It was initially thought that the hang glider was seriously injured but it then became apparent he was talking and not in bad shape, considering he crashed into a sand dune."

The man's condition is not known.
