Hayle's golden team leads bloom triumph
IT MIGHT have been a soggy summer but west Cornwall In Bloom groups have been proving they have got what it takes to brighten up any dull day.
Penzance, Hayle, Marazion and St Just all walked away with prizes for the quality of their floral displays at this year's South West in Bloom awards ceremony.

Penzance in Bloom won a silver for the town, plus Best New Entry and a glass trophy as part of the new entry award.
Chairman of the Penzance Community Flora Group, town councillor Fiona Thomas-Lambourn, who went to the awards ceremony in Weston-super-Mare last week, said it was very good news.

The Marazion team won silver for their blooms and town mayor, Bernie Hall, said the result was great. Penney Hosking, chairman of Marazion in Bloom, said: "A few of us went up to Weston and we were very pleased about the result. Let's hope next year we do better."
The group will meet on October 4 at the coffee lounge in Marazion Hotel for people to discuss plans and ideas for next year. All are welcome.
Hayle in Bloom secured gold for the town's efforts.
The group, led by chairman, Margaret Tanner, also won the Preece Cup for the highest marks in their category and neighbourhood awards for Railway Walk, Bob's Meadow, Library Wildlife Garden, Adopt-a-Plotters, Allotments and King George V Memorial Walk.
Mrs Tanner said: "Everybody is absolutely delighted. I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved."
St Just also scored high, winning a Silver Gilt and eight neighbourhood awards – including three judged 'outstanding' (level five), three 'thriving' (level four) and two 'developing' (level two). But the St Just in Bloom team had been hoping for a gold after getting Silver Gilt seven years in a row.
Chairman, Chris Goninan, said: "I think all the group was slightly disappointed."
