Hayle swoop for victory over Eagles
CORNWALL & DEVON LEAGUE
Falmouth Eagles 15, Hayle 21
HAYLE came away from Falmouth on Saturday relieved to have earned their first league victory of the season, while the home side were left literally kicking themselves after missed conversions ultimately cost them the match.
The Eagles enjoyed a good spell of early pressure but with the visiting defence standing firm, they were rewarded when a Falmouth defensive kick was charged down which allowed Talan Daniels in for the opening try, with Martin Strick adding the extras.

Falmouth didn't let their heads drop, however, and came storming back with another good attacking spell which this time yielded their first try of the game when Tony Whittle went over following a line-out.
The Eagles' joy was shortlived, though, as Hayle responded with another breakaway try before the interval, with Tony Matthews crossing the line and Strick making no mistake with the conversion.
Hayle increased their advantage within minutes of the restart when the Lions made a clean break through the midfield, only for the attack to be halted by a last-ditch high tackle from Falmouth's Tom Edmonds.
The referee duly awarded a penalty try for the offence, which Strick successfully slotted between the posts with another clinical kick.
The Eagles were left with a mountain to climb to get themselves back in the contest but gave themselves hope when Paul Saberton made a break down the wing before passing inside to Edmonds who crossed in the corner for an unconverted try.
Another line-out move was then rewarded with a try for Ollie Church, but the conversion attempt again wayward Hayle produced some more solid defence to close out the game and ensure their first league points of the campaigjn following defeats in the both their opening matches.
This Saturday Hayle are at home to Withycombe who have two wins and two defeats from their four matches so far.
