Heart Start campaign: Lions to buy defib for Penzance seafront
PENZANCE Lions Club has shown its support for The Cornishman's Heart Start campaign by deciding to buy a defibrillator for the town.
This newspaper is aiming to get 100 lifesaving defibrillators in public places by helping the Penzance-based Ronnie Richards Memorial Charity (RRMC) raise money and awareness of the cause.
Since the campaign launched at the beginning of the month, three donors have come forward offering to pay the cost of a public access defibrillator and dozens of others have offered donations, help, ideas and support.
Penzance Lions is a small group of some 18 members who raise money throughout the year for local causes.

The club's welfare officer, Lynne May, spotted The Cornishman's campaign and decided to bring it to the attention of the other members.
She said they had unanimously decided to donate the money for a defibrillator.
"We thought that this was an excellent thing and it would benefit all of us," she said.
"There was not a single person who was not sure about it."
The group has paid for a PAD, which, it is hoped, will be sited in a strategic position on Penzance Promenade.
The devices cost £780 + VAT and the RRMC has already raised enough funds for one at the Fisherman's Mission, Newlyn, one at the Lugger Hotel and one at Penzance railway station.
Paul Williams, who founded the charity, said it was hoped that the Lions' 'defib' will fill a gap along the seafront.
Lions' president Jerry Dawkin said the money was raised by Lions at their Christmas grotto at Wyevale Garden Centre.
Penzance Lions meet every second Monday of the month at the Queen's Hotel, Penzance.
