The festival is based around four core sports; cycling, running, open water swimming and triathlon, ensuring there is something for everyone and for all levels.

The weekend programme also includes touch rugby, beach volleyball and gig rowing, as well as children's activities, food and drink, and live music from the rock band Reef.

This is the first year the festival has taken place but organisers hope it will become an annual event that will attract encourage people at all levels to participate in sports.

Rob Hillman, event director, said: "It's an event that's geared for all abilities. There are people who will fly round the courses and have come here to race and people doing events for the very first time.

"They've come from near and far, we're catering for all sorts of people."

He added that the event had been a "long time in the planning" but they had organised it to coincide with the London 2012 Olympics, which have inspired people to get involved with sports.

"Mass participation sport is a growing market," he said. "People love taking part."

And he said that it was "fantastic" to have Helen Glover at the event, spurring runners on.

The festival continues tomorrow with more events including triathlons and open water swims. For more information click here
