Helping bereaved parents
PLANS to revamp the Daisy Suite at the Royal Cornwall Hospital – a room for bereaved parents overcoming the loss of a baby – are moving a step closer with the news that Ella's Memory has raised £14,000.
The charity was established by Martyn and Emmillie Selley following the death of their daughter, Ella, who was stillborn in December.
The couple were prompted into action after using the Daisy Suite, which they said needed updating.
Mr Selley said: "This is the only facility like this in the whole of Cornwall and is tragically used on average once a week.
"Since it was opened in 1999 the suite has always been the last room in the hospital to receive any funding and is looking extremely tired and needing some TLC, especially as it plays such a vital role for grieving parents and their families."
The couple, using the funds raised via Ella's Memory, want to build a new entrance leading to the Memorial Garden and revamp the bathroom, kitchen and bedroom facilities.
They also want to supply it with a camera and printing equipment, plaster and ink kits and memory boxes to help parents create keepsakes.
The charity's next event is the Ella's Auction Dinner and Dance at Tregenna Castle in St Ives on October 1. Items donated include return flights to Dublin, a luxury penthouse weekend in Carbis Bay, tickets to watch Manchester United and an England rugby shirt signed by Phil Vickery. Tickets cost £40.
