SHELTERBOX has announced that Alison Wallace, former director of international fundraising at the human rights organisation Amnesty International, will take over as the chief executive on April 15.

The Helston-based disaster relief charity was plunged into turmoil by the sacking of its founder and chief executive, Tom Henderson, last year.

She said she was delighted to be asked to lead ShelterBox "on the next stage of its growth". "I firmly believe that shelter, and the dignity it brings in the hours and days after a major disaster, is key to families and communities re-building their lives as soon as possible," she said.

ShelterBox chairman Rob John welcomed the new chief executive.

Mr Henderson, a former Royal Navy officer who founded and led the charity to international success, is taking his dismissal to an employment tribunal and the case is due to be heard shortly, although a date has not yet been fixed. ShelterBox said it would not comment on the case.
