Helston opposes pasty drive-through
BUSINESSES and residents in Helston have voiced concerns over plans to build a drive-through takeaway pasty shop on the town's outskirts.
At a Helston Town Council planning committee meeting on Thursday, members recommended refusal of the plans from Helston Pasty Company to build a factory, shop and takeaway on the former Hilltop Garage site on Sithney Common Hill.
The committee heard that local people were worried the new business would cause an increase in local traffic, and threaten the town's economy due to competition with other retail outlets. Nearby residents feared it would produce unpleasant noise and odours.
The application, to be considered by Cornwall Council, has received 11 objections but no supporting comments.
Nobody from the pasty company attended the meeting but planning consultancy Laurence Associates, which was engaged by the firm to submit supporting documents, said the site was intended to become a showcase for the sale of Cornish produce.
