A project aiming to share the history of the Saltash ferries has been awarded a £22,600 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Saltash Ferry Link Project intends to use the funds to capture the history of the ferries in a memory bank and information sculpture.

"This award reflects the importance of the ferry in the origins of the town and the history of the area," said Lynn Marsh, who is leading the project.

The memory bank and sculpture will be placed at the head of the old ferry slip in Ashtorre Rock. A representative from the project said: "This will build upon the outstanding Ferry50 Festival and help to keep the heritage of the ferry alive for present and future Saltash residents, and also to interest visitors who enjoy the waterside and history of the town."
