Heron's disability project
THE recent Paralympics have been a marvellous showcase for disability sport and some of the greatest benefits have been to make so many people aware of just what can be achieved and also the opportunities that are available.
At Heron Tennis Centre in Newquay they already have a good number of keen players taking part in their disability programme but they are looking for more. The sessions take place on Sunday mornings from 10.30am to noon and are open to players with any sort of disability (learning and physical). Both regular tennis and wheelchair tennis are coached and all equipment is provided, including specialist sports chairs.
Another good thing about the programme is that brothers and sisters of any disabled players taking part are also very welcome to join in.
The sessions are subsidised, thanks to funding support received through the Sportivate Scheme, and cost £1.50 per week.
