Hicks targets Welsh Open spot
Cornwall snooker star Andy Hicks will meet Matthew Stevens on Monday (1pm) for a place in the first round of the Welsh Open.
The Falmouth-based player, sponsored by United Kingdowm Inspection Services (UKIS), sealed his qualifying place after coming back from 3-1 down to beat Paul Davidson 5-3, before beating world number 31 Adrian Gunnell 5-2 at the Institute of Sport in Sheffield last week.
If Hicks overcomes Stevens, he will play Ding Jughui in the first round at the Newport Centre.
Tavistock-born Hicks is currently enjoying some of the best form of his career and the 35-year-old, in the one-year rankings, is currently 26th in the world.
"Andy is playing ever so well at the moment and moving up to 26th is a real stepping stone for next season," said Hicks' manager Paul Williams.
Hicks' best of nine frames clash with Stevens will be shown live on BBC World.
