Historic house set for apple weekend
A beautiful National Trust property is to stage an "apple weekend" to mark the traditional cider harvest.
The festival is being held in the orchards of Cotehele, in the Tamar Valley, near Saltash, on September 15-16.

Visitors will be able to sip freshly-pressed apple juice, taste and compare different apples, savour delicious apple-based food and enjoy orchard tours.
There will be fruit presses and crushers for sale, a children's apple-themed trail, tours, tastings and a cookery demonstration.

The highlight of the weekend will be putting a restored Victorian cider press to work making traditional cider.
Dave Bouch, Cotehele's head gardener, said: "Many traditional orchards have been lost in the last century due to the intensification of food production but also because of a long-term decline in the popularity of cider as a drink.
"With more than 100 traditional orchards in its care across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the National Trust is working to revive the fortunes of our traditional orchards and help provide good-quality habitats for wildlife."
Cotehele's own orchard dates back three centuries and is home to a diverse range of local varieties. Its "Mother Orchard" was planted in 2007, continuing a long tradition of apple-growing in the Tamar Valley.
The event is open from 11am to 4pm each day. Normal admission charges apply.
