A HOLE opened up in the road outside a school as children left for the day.

PCSO Sean McDonnell was directing drivers and parents outside Falmouth Primary School as a parent said the police, fire brigade and highways officials were on their way to the scene in Park Rise just after 3pm today (Wednesday).

Parent Wendy Haith had just picked up her son when she came across the 2ft-wide hole.

She told the West Briton: "It's a big hole with what looks like a cave underneath. After school I saw there was a man standing in the road. You have to be a bit nosy, so I had a look and saw this really deep hole and it looked like more of the road was going to go.

"The PCSO stopped traffic and it had not been diverted yet, but will have to be after all the parents get away from school.

"It's not going to be an easy job I don't think. It's like a cavern and when you look down it you can't see the edges of where it stops."
