Well-heeled urban types love them, housing campaigners loathe them but now second homes are set for their own television show – and a Westcountry hotspot is to play the starring role.

The new show, Holiday Home Sweet Home, will focus on the sought-after Devon enclave of South Hams and its 4,000 holiday properties.

Local company Coast & Country Cottages, which has offices in Salcombe and Dartmouth, was chosen by the Plymouth-based TV company behind the series, TwoFour Productions.

Cameras descended during the Salcombe regatta for five sunny days in August, capturing the busy day-to-day life at a letting and management agency. The firm emerged from a tough selection process, which included screen tests for staff and a pilot episode back in April.

Now the show is set to make stars out of its staff, Nick Seedhouse, Magda Tucker and Jon Doyle, as the crew follow them in and out of worktime.

Andrew and Karen Jones, who own and run the company, said they were "delighted" to have beaten competition from around the country.

Mrs Jones said the programme would show the full range of work which goes into looking after a holiday home, including housekeeping, maintenance, marketing, sales and accounts "all under one roof". She added: "We did attract a lot of attention with a film crew following us around Salcombe, especially as we were unable to tell everyone what it was for."

The agency, which looks after more than 400 properties in South Devon, is expected to be featured in four episodes over a four-week run.

Filming took place in the offices overlooking the Salcombe Estuary and in several of the agency's holiday homes. Spokeswoman Victoria Rogers said TwoFour Productions were keen to highlight Salcombe and the South Hams as the perfect area for a holiday.
