A FOWEY residential home has invited its own residents and local people to comment on plans to improve the accommodation.

Ocean Housing has been discussing options for developing Windmill House with residents over the past ten months, ranging from updating the current facilities to building new homes.

Although no decision has been reached, Ocean Housing said it is leaning towards providing new homes as the best way forward.

A pre-planning application has now been submitted to Cornwall Council to discover whether permission might be granted for a new Windmill House.

Ocean Housing said the initial response from the community had been "extremely positive".

Managing director Frances Turner said: "Local residents appreciate that the existing accommodation has reached the end of its life and over 90 per cent of people welcomed our plans. The message from Windmill residents was loud and clear: 'Just get on with it!'

"Understandably, there were a few concerns from neighbouring properties about construction traffic during any development, and parking. We were able to reassure residents that such issues are addressed as part of the planning process.

"We also have a great deal of experience and have won several national awards commending the way we build homes in residential areas with minimum disruption to the local community."

Ocean gave a presentation on its initial plans to Fowey Town Council in October, and briefed members on the involvement of current residents in developing them.

A final decision is expected in the spring.
