Home, sweet home; pupils make villages out of cake
A GIANT cake depicting the villages of St Mabyn and St Tudy was a tasty way for children and staff to celebrate the federation of the two communities' primary schools.
The event at Hengar Manor showcased pupils' achievements during the past few terms, both individually and in partnership.

Creative workshops featuring Cornish artists were arranged by Rio, a social enterprise organisation which works with young people and supports schools through innovative projects.
Visual artist Tony Minion, writer and actor Anna Maria Murphy, photographer Mike Newman and the Cornish Guardian's What's On editor Lee Trewhela are among those who have visited the schools to offer their expertise.
Highlight
The centrepiece of the celebration was a giant cake produced with the help of artist Tom Barnecut.
The children created sections of the cake to depict prominent buildings, hedges and even people from both villages – and there was soon nothing left but the crumbs.
Federation head teacher Karen Holmes said the 8ft by 8ft cake tasted as good as it looked."Every bit was eaten; in fact, I took the last piece home to eat at the weekend with my husband," she said.
"The two village churches were given the sections with the churches and parents took other pieces home with them.
"The celebration at Hengar Manor was fantastic, with parents and other residents from both villages coming along to support us."
