Hospital to shut "temporarily"
A West Cornwall community hospital is set to temporarily shut its doors.
Poltair Hospital, in Madron near Penzance, will close its doors and redeploy staff to nearby hospitals struggling to fill gaps in employment.
The move has been described as "regrettable" but necessary. The hospital is now said to be consulting with affected patients and their relatives to ensure their medical needs continue to be met.

have reached the position where we have so few patients in Poltair at the
moment that it makes sense to use the staff capacity we have to strengthen
other sites," said Kevin Baber, Chief Executive of Peninsula Community Health, the
provider of NHS community health services in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
"We
are doing our best to recruit staff to our sites across Cornwall and the Isles
of Scilly and now plan to take our recruitment drive national to bring people
in from outside of the county if necessary to get our teams back to full
strength.
"The
temporary closure of any community hospital is regrettable but it makes sense
to maximise bed availability in the west by concentrating resources on our
other sites to ensure those beds can remain safely staffed and available."
