IF THERE'S one musical genre that Cornwall excels at it's the noisier end of hardcore punk-metal.

Falmouth trio Bangers have become a big name across Europe and now they're followed by melodic hardcore outfit Veils, who released their debut EP Clarity through Tangled Talk Records last month. Their latest efforts show a fledgling band, already so confident in their sound that they've written a record more accomplished and coherent than bands that have been playing together for ten times as long.

This outpouring of raw emotion and energy akin to acts such as Touché Amore, Rolo Tomassi and Defeater will have any fan of rock at its rawest hooked instantly.

Clarity is five tracks of power, depth and personal discovery; vocalist Chlo Edwards – well known to Cornish music fans as singer with Downtown Riots – sings with pure desperation.

Frenetic drums thrash away behind a heavy yet beautifully melodic guitar, soundtracking the lament but also hope in Chlo's poetic lyrics.

Kerrang! recently wrote of the band: "Part rowdy barking, part DIY punk energy, their ferocious anthems and blistering live performances are giving holidaymakers a whole new reason to head south."

Veils headed off for a two-week tour last week before venturing to Europe for two weeks in April with Southampton hardcore band The Long Haul.
