Huge swell combines with highest tide of the month in Newquay
A huge swell and high tide created a dramatic spectacle in Newquay yesterday evening as gigantic waves pounded the cliffs and beaches.
Earlier in the day Newquay's notorious reef 'The Cribbar', which breaks only a handful of times a year, was ridden by surfing champion Ben 'Skindog' Skinner, who had to use a jet ski to tow him into the enormous waves.

Crowds gathered at Newquay's main surfing beach Fistral, and on the headlands either side, to watch dark lines peel in from the frothing Atlantic Ocean and smash against rocks.
At Towan Beach youngsters in wetsuits hung onto the railings while waves bouncing off the sea wall covered them.
The coastguard were in attendance to make sure the fun didn't turn to tragedy.
