INTERACTIVE MAPS: 2012 RNLI lifeboat and lifeguard rescues in Cornwall

2012 was another busy year for RNLI Lifeboats spending an incredible combined 3930.5 hours at sea - the equivalent of almost 164 days.

The 14 stations in Cornwall rescued 407 people, 48 of whom were under 18, and launched all weather and in shore lifeboats a total of 445 times.

The busiest stations were Falmouth Lifeboat Station, launching a total of 82 times and rescuing 65 souls (17 of whom were under 18), and Penlee Lifeboat station, launching a total of 61 times and rescuing 69 souls.

Falmouth Lifeboat Station saved 17 minors under 18 years old, and Newquay Lifeboat Station saved 12 under-18s during 56 lifeboat launches.

RNLI's lifeguards also had a busy year patrolling 57 beaches in Cornwall. They dealt with 6,137 incidents, assisted 6,888 and saved 24 lives.

With the largest number of RNLI lifeguarded beaches in the country, Cornwall was the busiest in the south west.

As usual the busiest beach was Perranporth where lifeguards dealt with 615 incidents followed by Newquay's North Fistral with 394 incidents and then Gwithian with 353 incidents.
