Ice skating at the cathedral to add to the festive attractions of Truro
ICE-SKATING could become a feature of the festive season in Truro.
A planning application for permission to construct a temporary rink on Cathedral Green has been submitted to Cornwall Council.
Truro Cathedral intends to put its proposals for the rink and a marquee for changing rooms to public consultation and hopes to have it up and running by the end of next month through to the new year.
The joint project with the Totally Truro Business Improvement District would run for three years and Dean of Truro, the Very Rev Roger Bush, said: "We are delighted to submit these plans. Using the Cathedral Green in this way captures the essence of our Inspire Cornwall development project to share cathedral resources and facilities with people who live in or visit our local community."

Part of the income from the rink will go towards the restoration of the Old Cathedral School as a cultural and creative hub.
Totally Truro manager Neil Scott said: "Christmas in Truro just keeps gettign better and better. The addition of an outdoor ice rink is a major coup for the city. Over the last few years the success of projects like the City of Lights parade, the extra Christmas street lights and the introduction of the park-and-ride system has drawn ever greater numbers into the city for a wonderful Christmas experience.
"An open-air ice-skating rink will not only add to that offer but also be great fun."
