A carpet fitter has been ordered to pay £2,000 compensation to a cancer patient he attacked because she complained about him making too much noise outside her home.
Anthony Hearn, 28, left Denise Glean with three broken ribs and a punctured lung after the savage attack.
He laid into her after she left her home in Oxford Grove, Ilfracombe, to ask him to be quiet because she had been disturbed by the noise of an argument he was having beneath her windows. The severe injuries she suffered affected her attempts to cope with cancer, Exeter Crown Court was told.
Hearn, a father-of-two, of Worth Road, Ilfracombe, admitted causing grievous bodily harm and was jailed for 12 months, suspended for two years, ordered to pay £2,000 compensation and do 200 hours community work.
