Investigation after man's body found with gunshot wounds
A village is in mourning following the death of a well-known man who was found dead in a field after suffering what have been described as gunshot wounds.
The body of Matthew Hemming, who was married and had children, was found near the South East Cornwall village of Tideford.
Police yesterday confirmed they have launched an inquiry but say they do not believe the 48-year-old's death to be suspicious. Officers were called after the body was discovered in a field near the village at about 6.48am yesterday.
A Devon and Cornwall Police spokesman said a passer-by had heard gunshots around midnight.
Mr Hemming lived in the village of Tideford and was a well-known face in the village pub the Rod and Line.
One friend said last night: "It's absolutely terrible news. The whole place is in shock. He was such a lovely popular bloke. No-one can believe it."
