STUDENT Stuart Jackson of Mitchell, near Newquay, may be just finishing the first year of his Fine Arts Foundation Degree at Cornwall College Camborne but it looks like he's already making a name for himself on the international arts circuit.

Stuart – known to his friends as Jakoh – is set to have his work showcased at Naked Lunch@50 in Paris at the start of July.

The prestigious three-day event celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Paris publication of William Burroughs' hugely influential landmark work Naked Lunch.

Burroughs, a notorious, avant-garde character, has long been an inspiration to Jakoh and the work being showcased is a tribute to Burroughs' style, but with a twist.

Jakoh said: "Part of our course was to develop a time-based media on a journey; make of that what you will.

"I'm rather obsessed with William Burroughs as a literary icon so I adopted his revolutionary cut and paste style but rather than using it as he did using literature I chose to do it with film.

"Burroughs' theory was to take a piece of narrative, rip it length-ways and rip it across the middle and then rearrange it.

"You end up with the same content but now it's in a totally different context. By doing this with literature you create new words and new phrase. So I applied those techniques to film."

The Fine Arts Foundation Degree at Cornwall College, which is approved by the University of Plymouth, promotes a strong emphasis on the inter-relationship of theory, studio practice and external working contexts.

The course also has strong links with local artists, community art groups and art galleries.

The exhibition runs from July 1 to 3 in Paris.
