Jewell in the crown as Liskeard fight back
THE news of bottom club Clyst Rovers' withdrawal from the league meant that the mood in the Liskeard camp was not good prior to this game at Pennygillam on Saturday.
Blues assistant manager Tony Richardson said: "It was a bit of a dampener for us to lose the six points we had gained from two victories over Clyst.
"It was a kick in the teeth for us prior to the game as the gap that we had forged suddenly disappeared leaving this as a 'must win' game for us.
"The players responded well, despite going a goal down, and fought back to be level at the break. Our second goal was worthy of winning any game and confirmed our right to the points as, over the 90 minutes, we were the better side."
Liskeard were denied an early goal by Clarets keeper Paul Hider's save from Demitri Kanakh and the future looked bleak for the visitors when their former striker, Dominic Richardson, fired Launceston into the lead.
But Liskeard levelled, three minutes before the interval, with Kanakh forcing the ball home from close range and five minutes from time substitute Shane Jewell crashed a great strike into the top corner of Hider's goal from 18 yards.
The win lifted the Blues seven points above bottom side Holsworthy
Man of the match: Matt Godfree (Liskeard).
