Jobless people to train as lifeguards in North Cornwall

JOBLESS young people have been given a chance to train as lifeguards at a surf school near St Merryn after European funding was provided for the project.

Harlyn Surf School has teamed up with the Cornwall Marine Network to offer the training via the county's Convergence European Social Fund (ESF) Programme.

It gives people aged 16 to 24 who are not in employment, education or training the opportunity to gain international surf lifesaving and instructor qualifications, accredited by the Academy of Surf Instructors (ASI) and Surf Lifesaving GB. There will be up to 12 places at a time and training will be delivered in 16 sessions, run throughout the year.
