PORTHLEVEN manager Kevin Richards is predicting a bright future for Jowan Shainberg and has challenged the young midfielder to force his way into the Cornwall County Youth squad.

The 16-year-old is the latest player to be promoted from Port's Combination League side by Richards, who has already seen enough to suggest Shainberg can be a big success, both at Gala Parc and at county level.

Shainberg has caught the eye of Richards and joint manager John Dent following a string of impressive performances for the second team this season.

The Porthleven-born teenager scored two goals against St Day in the Combination League recently and Richards feels Shainberg is now ready to become a permanent fixture in his first-team squad.

"Jowan is certainly one for the future," said Richards. "He's done very well for the second team in the Combination League and it's only right that he's given his chance in the first-team. For a lad who is still only 16 he has so much confidence, shows no fear and he's always itching to get involved.

"He's earned his place in the first-team squad, he's played a few games coming off the bench and he's done very well.

"I fully intend to give him a few starts before the end of the season."

And, while Shainberg will be given his chance to impress at club level, the Porthleven boss hopes to see the left-sided midfielder come into Tommy Matthews' Cornwall County Youth thoughts.
