A GROW-YOUR-OWN-VEG scheme near Wadebridge has marked Fairtrade Fortnight by introducing a new range of environmentally friendly jute vegetable hampers.

Camel Community Supported Agriculture at St Kew Highway is a co-operative venture which grows vegetables for members to share through a weekly veg box scheme.

The non-profit-taking community group will now use biodegradable, carbon-zero bags made from natural plant fibres. They are produced in India and supplied by GoJute, based in St Austell.

Membership secretary Cath Simmons said: "These sustainable jute hampers will replace the assorted plastic and cardboard containers used at the moment for our weekly veg boxes. They'll make the Friday picking and packing sessions a lot more efficient.
