Kerbs' comp' brings scooters, skaters and BMXers to skatepark
KERBS Skateboard Assocation brought together skaters, scooter riders and BMX riders for a huge open competition day at the recently opened Wherrytown Skatepark.
The day was organised and run by Kerbs, Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service and South Shore surf and skate shop.
And aside from bringing together the three different extreme sport riders at the prestigious plaza-style facility, it may also have uncovered some major talent for the future.
Kerbs’ Victoria Walters said: “One of the most popular skateboarders to watch was Lanny, an eight-year-old with talent beyond his years. He placed second in the ‘best trick’ category (out of all of the adults too!) and everyone was rooting for him.”

The day consisted of a BMX competition, a scooter competition and three skateboard categories: 12 and under, 13 and under and best trick.
The day also saw a few routine bumps and scrapes.
Victoria said: “Jake Hill from St Austell was the overall winner, going on to win after a trip to A&E for a broken nose!”
She added: “The day was a great success with families and all ages coming to watch and take part. The atmosphere was fantastic, with prizes being given out to those placing 1st to 3rd in each category donated by skate companies through South Shore.
“Cornwall Fire Service were a great help in organising the day and sorting out the red tape. We were very pleased to work with the Fire Service and local skate and surf store to bring the competition and day together. We are planning on holding another competition in the New Year.”
