A CLINICAL psychologist will begin a gruelling walk from Land's End to Lostwithiel in aid of Cornwall's hospices on September 8.

Kevin Simpson, of Outlook South West, which is based in Lostwithiel, will be joined for the whole distance by St Austell-based dentist, Steve Jones, to raise cash for Cornwall Hospice Care and Children's Hospice South West's Little Harbour.

Another 12 people – including the landlord and landlady from the King's Arms, Lostwithiel – will accompany the pair at various sections along the 108-mile route, which they will complete in eight days.

Mr Simpson said: "The route follows the north coastal path from Land's End to Padstow and then, on day 8 we turn inland and finish with a 17-mile jaunt from Padstow to Lostwithiel.

"We will be stopping at various pubs and bed and breakfasts along the way. However, we are paying all expenses out of our own pocket and all the money we collect will go straight to charity.

"We did a similar walk last year and raised £4,000 for the Precious Lives charity. This year we are hoping to exceed that amount.

"After a similar walk last year I know we are walking a pretty gruelling stretch of coastline, but we are all looking forward to the challenge."
