Key decision is being put to the business vote
VOTING has now begun on a key decision that will change the Truro business landscape over the next five years.
More than 100 votes have already been cast by business owners in the ballot to decide whether Truro should keep its Business Improvement District (BID) for the next five years.
The BID – financed by a tax on business premises – aims to provide services to make the city centre a better place to shop, visit and do business.
Organisers say they would use the budget of about £305,000 per year to fund events such as the Christmas lights and to promote Truro on a national level.

Neil Scott, BID manager, said: "We have achieved some incredible things since Truro's BID was first established in 2007.
"We were the first location in Cornwall to develop a BID as a sustainable way of funding improvements to town centres and now there are four in operation with more being developed."
The BID would also make efforts to improve the appearance of the city through work on signage and seating and would lobby the local authority and Government on behalf of businesses.
All businesses in the city centre with a rateable value of more than £12,500 are entitled to vote ahead of the July 12 deadline and should have now received ballot papers.
