Knitters called upon to create blanket the size of a football pitch in Truro
KNITTERS of all ages are being challenged to get their needles out to help create 3,000 wool squares for an enormous blanket the size of a football pitch.
Nikki Jenkins, owner of Truro Wool, thought up the Patchwork Pitch Challenge to raise funds for Children's Hospice South West (CHSW). Mrs Jenkins, who used to run the charity's store in Truro, opened her own wool shop six months ago.

Nikki Jenkins of Truro Wool who wants knitters to help her create a gaint patchwork blanket the size of a football pitch to raise funds for Children's Hospice South West.
She said the challenge was a way of encouraging everyone to have a go at knitting or crocheting, including men and children, while raising funds for a good cause.
Each person, she said, can use scraps of wool (machine washable - any weight or ply) to knit as many 12" x 12" squares, as they wish by May 31.

Each square will be submitted with a £1 donation towards the charity. She will then stitch them together at her store on St Mary's Street Mews, in time for the blanket to be laid out on Truro's Lemon Quay on June 21.
Mrs Jenkins said: "The squares can be knitted using any wool or design. Anyone can have a go, the squares can be as simple or as elaborate as you like."
Following the display the blanket will be split up and turned into smaller throws and cushion covers and sold or raffled to raise further funds for CHSW. For more information you can call Truro Wool on 01872 270661 or email trurowool@aol.co.uk
