Kris at The Kazbah
THE KAZBAH in Quay Street, Truro, reopened this week after a £70,000 investment programme with comprehensive re-decoration and improvements in the bar, dining area and kitchen.
The completion will be marked by an opening party on Saturday with live music and the chance to try the dishes from the new menu. New landlord, Kris Wickets, pictured with his team, grew upin St Newlyn East, and trained at Truro College. He previously worked in Padstow as assistant manager at Paul Ainsworth's Rojano's In The Square.
"I had been looking for the perfect pub for over two years," said Kris. "When we found the Old Kazbah building, I knew it was perfect and couldn't wait to take over.
"Our aim is to recreate a friendly Cornish village pub atmosphere in the heart of the city – the Kazbah is a hidden gem and we're hoping the new developments will help put our venue on the map in Truro. We've already had an enormous level of interest and support and we are now just working hard to get everything ready for our launch."
A wide range of drinks will be on offer with three real ales on tap at any time.
The menu will feature traditional pub food using as much local produce as possible, and also delicious sharing platters generously loaded with fine cut meats, accompanied by a variety of artisan breads, tasty stuffed peppers and olives, creamy baked camembert or nachos on a bed of five-bean chilli.
The pub is also launching open mic sessions on Monday nights where everyone is welcome to come and perform, a quiz night on Tuesday, jazz and wine Wednesdays. There will be some great everyday offers with a "working late club" every weekday with special promotional prices.
The Kazbah has opened a tea room adjacent to the pub. Kris's mum will be running this area and make the cakes that will be on sale, making this a real family business with a wide selection of loose leaf teas, coffees, chocolate and refreshing cordials, serving morning coffee, afternoon cream teas and high teas with freshly made sandwiches, toasted tea-cakes and delicious home-made cakes.
