Flights were due to resume from Land's End Airport to the Isles of Scilly today - more than two months after they were diverted from the airport due to a waterlogged runway.

Plastic matting has now been laid to alleviate the problems which forced the airport to close on December 18 and saw it open for just three flights last Monday before it closed again.

Flights have been diverted to Newquay Cornwall Airport since December, and for several weeks before that, but they were due to resume from Land's End following a period of dry weather.

Skybus, which operates the service between Land's End and St Mary's, said in a statement yesterday: "Following an inspection this afternoon (Monday 18th February) the Airport at Land's End will re-open as from Tuesday (19th) and flights will resume as per schedule."
