Gardeners at the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall, were amazed to find this Cistus – which normally flowers in the summer – in full bloom, despite the recent cold snap of weather.

Head gardener Mike Friend discovered the beautiful summer flower in the Stewards House Garden while giving some guests a tour of the grounds.

"I was very surprised to notice a Cistus in bloom with several other buds just waiting to open" he said.

"It's a plant that likes to be in a hot and dry environment, so for it to be flowering here in November with all the rain we have had is quite a shock."
