Grampound Road 157, Callington 158-9

AFTER Bank Holiday Monday's dramatic high scoring game at Werrington there was another thriller for Callington on Saturday.

This time they just came out on top by one wicket in the last over. After losing two early wickets Adam Cocking (46) and Chris Hunkin (29) took the total to 72 before Hunkin fell to Luke Davis.

When Cocking fell just short of his half century the 'Road' were 118 for six and the innings was in decline. Jim Shorten took three for 26.

But when Callington lost Jake Libby, Dan Davis and Danny Lee with only 42 on the board it was 'game on'. Matt Robins (55) and Luke Davis took the total to 106 before Ben Rowse dismissed them both.

Rob Harrison (19) took the home team close to victory, but there was still time for some late drama before the last pair of Aidan Libby and James Harrison got the winning run. Tom Hughes took four for 35.

Callington have a bye this weekend ahead of the start of the Premier League, while Grampound Road's game with St Austell has become a formality with St Austell already having qualified for the final.

St Austell 180, Werrington 114

COULD this be a memorable season for St Austell? Time will tell, but their early season could hardly have gone better with impressive Premier 50-50 cup wins over Callington, Newquay and now Werrington.

It all means that they have already made the August final, irrespective of the outcome of Saturday's final group game at Grampound Road.

Matt Rowe made 27, Taylor Williams 24 and Mike Bone 47, before being run out. However, their innings was in the balance somewhat at 127 for six. Andrew Libby then made a valuable 32 down the order.

Alex Smeeth wrapped up the tail to take four for 24 after brother Ben had taken three middle order wickets.

For once, the strong Werrington batting line up struggled, with only Ben Smeeth impressing with 47 at the top of the order.

Adam Hodgson was next highest with 15 as the St Austell attack shared the wickets. Libby's good season continued with three for 18 from ten overs.

● St Austell have received a further boost this week with the news that former Falmouth batsman Stefan Churcher has joined the club.
