Thirty one young people turned up at the community centre to find out about it.

And such was the level of interest that the town council is considering increasing its size.

The plan was to have 14 members - to mirror the size of the full council, but town councillors do not want to dampen the young people's enthusiasm by turning some away.

The ages of the young people who attended the event ranged from 11 to 19.

They were asked what they liked about the town and they highlighted good parks, cinema, rugby club and "awesome" school among their answers.

Improvements they would like to see ranged from a children's disco and more modern shops to celebrity visits to inspire young people and better care of the Brewery leat.

Redruth mayor councillor Judy Davidson MBE made the creation of a youth council one of the priorities for her term of office.

She wants young people to have a say in what happens in the town.

She said: "The launch event was quite quiet to start, but once it got going it built and built and there was a real buzz with lots of positivity."

The plan is for the youth council to have its own budget.

It is being overseen by the town council's admin assistant Beverley Brown and will meet for the first time in the new year.
