ONE of the first jobs for people elected to Cornwall Council in May will be deciding whether to have a chief executive. It comes after current chief executive Kevin Lavery resigned from the post and is set to take up a new job in New Zealand. Cornwall Council members want to debate whether a chief executive is needed at all. There has been widespread criticism of the high cost of the chief executive post with the salary standing at more than £200,000 a year. At County Hall on Tuesday some councillors suggested the post, if continued, could also cover the Council of the Isles of Scilly. The council agreed that it would leave the appointment to be made by the new council in May.
