THERE has been a lot of interest around Helston and The Lizard in the Relay for Life, due to be staged in the area later this year.

But now organisers want that interest translated into action.

Spokesman Gloria Knight said: "The launch was successful in that there was lots of interest on the day...and then zilch."

The Lizard Relay for Life, in aid of Cancer Research UK, will take place on June 19, one of some 70 similar relays being organised across the country.

The events are unique in that rather than an individual being sponsored for a one-off challenge, the relays are team endeavours made up from committed groups of friends, organisations and work colleagues.

Once a team has registered, fund-raising begins and continues until the day of the relay. Cancer Research UK has suggested that each team tries to raise £2,000.
