Lifeboat Day crowds witness 'shark attack'

A DRAMATIC shark attack left a victim with serious leg wounds and a lifeboat splattered in blood in St Agnes on Friday.

But the mock emergency was played out as part of St Agnes' Lifeboat Day, when people who packed Trevaunance Cove witnessed rescues in the sea, on the cliffs and in the air as part of the village's annual lifeboat day.

Crowds on the sun-drenched beach were treated to a mass rescue demonstration, including St Agnes RNLI Lifeboat and RNLI lifeguards using their inshore boat, rescue paddle-boards and jet skis. Scenarios included capsize drills, spinal demonstrations, kayak rescues and diver rescues.

Spectators were also entertained by the coastguard cliff rescue team, Newquay RNLI lifeboat and the Royal Navy helicopter.
