Ten-man Helston thwarted by Miles
Helston 0, Penryn 1
INDISCIPLINE cost Helston dearly as they went out of the Cornwall Charity Cup against their local rivals in Saturday's quarter-finals.
They were already a goal down to Justin Miles' 17th minute strike when Ben Stidwell was sent off by referee Alan Hoon for violent conduct on the half-hour.
It left Sid Taylor's side with a mountain to climb against their local rivals and for a time it looked as though they were struggling to adjust.
But they got their act together in the second half, but for all their possession were unable to fashion an equaliser against an excellent visitors' defence.
Penryn, who included five second team players in their starting line-up, contained their opponents well and in Kirk Davies they had the tie's outstanding performer.
So Penryn progressed to the last four, and the draw for the semi-finals takes place on Monday evening.
Elsewhere in the Charity Cup on Saturday, Carl Rickard hit a hat-trick as St Dennis romped to a 5-0 home win over Probus.
