Local singer Hayley Waller needs YOU!
Last night Cornish performer Hayley Waller competed against 18 other acts for a place in the next round of the Open Mic UK 2012. The local singer from Camborne captivated the audience with her cover of Upside Down, orignally by Paloma Faith. Now she needs your help to progress to the next round.
"Performing a song that's bouncy rather than intensely serious wasn't an easy decision to make. I'd usually opt for power ballads, but it's a common mistake as most entrants do the same." Despite making an unusual choice, Hayley's cover was well received by Dewsbury's paying audience. "I was amazed at the amount of applause and congratulations I got for my performance. Upside Down's such a fun song to sing, I loved every moment."
The 19 acts together produced a show full of diversity, catering for all ages and musical tastes. "The atmosphere backstage was great. I've made what I hope are some lasting friendships. One act I bonded really well with was Goldfish Bowl. Girish and Kris are both great guys with a passionately quirky act."
Over 10,000 people enter Open Mic UK every year. As the largest UK singing competition, it sets out to find talented performers all over the country who want to commit to a working life in the music industry.

"I now need to prove to the judges that I have the support of family, friends and most of all, fans. The vote now goes to those who weren't able to make the Dewsbury show and this is where my Cornish supporters are able to help me progress to the next stage.
"So far the support from my Cornish friends and fans has been fantastic. Going on stage knowing I had so many people backing me - in both Cornwall and Yorkshire - was a fantastic feeling. I can't thank everyone enough for their support."
The proud Cornish singer insisted that she was introduced to the audience as a representative of both Cornwall and Huddersfield. "It's important to mention my hometown but also the people from Huddersfield who've supported me, like landlords, Emm and Lee at The Junction, who've supported me every step of the way."
