THE official opening of the new natural play area at St Buryan Community House takes place on Saturday, between 10am and 4pm.

The day will also celebrate Penwith Play Partnership and Penwith District Council's successfully drawing down of £200,000 from the Big Lottery Fund for a portfolio of 13 play and free-time projects across the district. The new play area is a highly creative and innovative play space, inspired and designed by the children and young people of St Buryan and first of its kind in Cornwall combining community volunteers, specialist environmental artists and techniques, and £30,000 of Big Lottery funding.

The day will offer a variety of free entertainment and activities, including mosaic and wood carving workshops, storytelling, face painting, live music, a barbecue and refreshments, with the official opening ceremony taking place at 11am.
