Loud bang alerts of St Austell house fire
A LOUD bang alerted people to a potentially serious house fire in St Austell late last night.
The emergency services were first warned just before 11pm.
They were told the noise came from somewhere in the area of Mount Charles Road and sent a fire engine with six firefighters to investigate.
Ten minutes later, the crew called for a second fire engine to join them at a house in Clifden Road.

The firemen had discovered a cooker on fire in the house and, wearing breathing masks, they used a water jet to extinguish the flames.
They entered the property and made sure if was safe. It appeared the fire had caused the loud bang although the exact reason for the noise is not known.
