IN THE MIRE
Royal Mail is to ban the transportation of guns and their component parts by post, prompting an angry response from the British Association for Shooting and Conservation. Royal Mail says it is consulting on changes to its terms and conditions that will ensure that they are consistent with relevant firearms legislation. It is proposing that all firearms, including guns for sporting use, as well as their component parts, are prohibited. BASC say the transportation of guns and parts through the post have been managed for many years in a safe and secure way with no evidence of either falling into the wrong hands. The group is campaigning against the move.
Grouse moor accident
Sotheby's chairman Henry Wyndham is recuperating after he was shot in the face during a day grouse shooting, the ShootingUK website reports. Mr Wyndham was reportedly standing at his butt when a gun near him was accidentally fired, leaving him with 52 lead pellet wounds. It is thought that he would have been blinded had he not been wearing glasses. A Sotheby's spokesman said: "Henry Wyndham sustained an accident on the grouse moor and is currently on track for a full and rapid recovery."
