MP named as biggest rebel in coalition
ANDREW George has been named the most rebellious MP in Parliament in a new survey.
The MP for west Cornwall has voted against the Liberal Democrat-Conservative coalition Government 28 times since it came to power in May 2010.
The report, published on the Huffington Post political commentary website, put him top of the list of Lib Dem rebels.
He has also refused to back Government policies by abstaining from even more votes, says his constituency office.
Mr George's office said he voted against the Government on the policy to increase student tuition fees and led the campaign against health reforms.
Mr George said: "It gives me neither pleasure nor sorrow to hear the news. I'm just doing my job. We are all elected to Parliament to hold the Government to account.
"I support the coalition. But that doesn't mean to say that I support everything it does.
"Parliamentarians have a right to hold the Government to account, whichever side of the chamber they sit."
Mr George has sent out Christmas cards with the message that just one day's worth of City bankers' bonuses would provide a roof over the head of every homeless person in the UK for a year.
Mr George said: "It is traditional that we reflect on the needs of others at Christmas. The Christmas story involves temporary rough sleepers, when there was 'no room at the inn'.
"It is appropriate that we should again reflect on the needs of those for whom there is 'no room'."

“In my humble opinion the man is useless. He gives the impression he's on your side but does nothing. All things to all men but the mask is slipping. Rebel? Don't make me laugh.”
