The A30 in Cornwall was closed yesterday after a two-car crash. Emergency services were called to Loggans Moor, near Hayle, shortly after 2pm. Firefighters cut two casualties out of the wreckage of their vehicle. Cornwall Air Ambulance landed on the carriageway to airlift a man to hospital. At least one other person was injured. The road was closed in both directions as police, fire and ambulance crews dealt with the injured. The crash involved a Ford Mondeo and a Vauxhall Astra. The road was still closed as the WMN went to press last night.

“I agree that there is a lot of poor driving about but behaviour is encouraged by circumstance. For the people who 'designed' this road not to have understood the consequences is staggering.”

“Unfortunately some roads encourage drivers to take chances. The problem with this particular road is it is a single carriageway road, no central reservation and extremely wide lanes. What tends to happen is drivers don't seem to realise that it is there responsibility to ensure that it is safe for them to cross the white line (Its a broken white line). Practically every time I drive on this stretch of road I have someone decide to overtake by crossing onto my side of the road and expecting me to take evasive action, only on Tuesday this week I had a police car do it (Not on a blue light run). The problem with doing this is you are relying on the driver heading towards you paying attention and not being distracted by something else. Every year there is at least one fatal accident on this stretch caused by this.
While you may be correct that roads themselves are not dangerous, only the drivers on them, some roads are more hazardous then others, purely by narrowing the lane width on this road would reduce the accidents, as drivers would not take the chance of crossing into the oncoming traffic.”

“Taking chances is not part of the Highway Code and if drivers obeyed that there wouls not be a fraction of the accidents that occur. There are no dangerous roads only dangerous drivers.”

“This is a badly laid out road and the worst stretch is the wide road where people take their chances on a single carriageway going towards the St.Erth roundabout.”
