Man arrested over £120,000 VAT fraud
A Westcountry businessman has been arrested on suspicion of VAT fraud estimated at £120,000, Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs has said. Criminal investigators arrested the man, who was not named, at his home near Exeter on Friday. Spokesman Lisa Billard said the authority takes tax fraud seriously and "will not hesitate to investigate those suspected of stealing public funds". People with information about VAT fraud were urged to call the HMRC. Officials searched businesses and residential premises and the man has been bailed until March 4.
