The emergency services were called to the scene, just past the Altarnun and Five Lanes junction, near Launceston, on the westbound carriageway at 5.05pm on Monday.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the collision involved a tractor towing a trailer, which had both overturned, and a red Skoda Fabia car. The man, who was from the Hampshire area, was driving the Skoda in the direction of Bodmin.
A police spokesperson this morning said: "As a result of the road traffic collision the male driver in the Skoda died as a result of his injuries. He has not been formally identified at this time."
